Air Dry Clay

These have been a fun DIY activity with my kids to make our own Christmas ornaments to send to my family along with their Christmas presents.
Whether you are looking to make Christmas ornaments, milestone hand prints, gift tags... this is a great recipe.

We used an egg ring to cut circle shapes, used a straw to poke a hole so it can hang once dry and my girls each made a thumb print and then we sprinkled glitter. After the clay dried, we added sequins!
You could paint these, draw on them with markers... so many ways you could bedazzle your creations or keep them simple.
Ingredients
  • 1 cup corn flour
  • 2 cups bi carb soda
  • 1 + 1/2 cups water
optional: add food coloring to make colored air dry clay
Method
  1. Add all ingredients together in a non-stick pot on a medium heat.
  2. Cook for a few minutes and continue to stir. I used a whisk until the mixture started to thicken. The mixture will change from a soft paste to a consistency of mashed potatoes.
  3. Once the mixture has thickened and pulls away from the pot (like mash potatoes), immediately remove from heat and leave to cool.
  4. Once cool, knead lightly and have fun!
(I use our silicone baking mats which can be found here as a non stick mat)

** the clay can crack if drying too fast so avoid leaving it directly in the sun for the first 24 hours.
